The Super Hewa Hydropower Project is a 6 MW run-of-river hydropower facility located on the Hewa Khola River in Sankhuwasabha District, Koshi Province, Nepal. Developed by Super Hewa Power Company Limited, the project lies between Chainpur and Panchkhapan municipalities and harnesses the river’s flow through a high-head system with Pelton turbines to generate electricity for the national grid. The project obtained its generation license in March 2019 (Chaitra 2075 BS) and signed a Power Purchase Agreement with the Nepal Electricity Authority earlier in 2018 for the sale of electricity generated from the plant. The facility transmits power through a 33 kV transmission line to the Baneshwar substation, located about 13 km from the project switchyard. Super Hewa began electricity generation in March 2025, initially supplying free electricity to the grid during the trial period before entering commercial operation. The plant is expected to produce around 6.17 GWh of electricity annually. Together with the nearby Upper Piluwa Khola-2 project, it contributes roughly 11 MW of additional generation capacity to strengthen Nepal’s electricity supply, particularly during the dry season.
