About

The Upper Rahughat Hydropower Project is a 48.5 MW run-of-river hydropower facility located on the Rahughat River in Raghuganga Rural Municipality of Myagdi District, Gandaki Province, Nepal. Developed by the Tundi Power Company Limited, the project utilizes the natural flow of the Rahughat River to generate electricity for Nepal’s national grid and forms part of a cascade hydropower development system in the Rahughat basin. Construction of the project included a dam at Chimkhola and a powerhouse at Dagnam, connected by a tunnel system of nearly five kilometers. Major civil structures, hydromechanical components, and transmission infrastructure were developed over several years as part of the project’s implementation. Trial generation began in 2025 after the completion of dam, tunnel, powerhouse, and transmission facilities, and the project subsequently entered commercial electricity production. The Upper Rahughat project operates in coordination with the nearby Chimkhola–Rahughat–Mangale Hydropower Project, with both projects supplying electricity to the national grid and strengthening regional hydropower generation in the Rahughat River basin.
